Question:
Why should I attend Cooperative Parenting ?
Answer:
Parents attend Cooperative Parenting for a variety of reasons, but the most
important one is that they realize their children will be benefitted
if they improve their relationship with the child's other parent.
Research evidence is clear: parents who maintain a conflicted or
competitive relationship with one another are causing serious damage
to their children. Conflict damages children but when parents do
not talk with one another, the welfare of the child is also compromised.
Question:
What will I learn in Cooperative Parenting ?
Answer:
You will learn how to become more calm and solution-focused in your
communication with your co-parent. You will develop a better understanding
of why a cooperative co-parenting relationship is better for your
child. New ideas and skills will give you better tools to cope
with your own feelings and the challenges your co-parent presents
to you. Cooperative Parenting provides you a caring and compassionate class
that encourages you to accept personal responsibility for having
the best possible relationship with your child's other parent.
Question:
Do both parents attend the same workshop?
Answer:
No. Parents do not attend the same workshop. However, step-parents,
new partners or other family members can attend the same workshop
with each parent.
Question:
Where are workshops held?
Answer:
Workshops are offered in various county locations -- presently we
offer classes in San Diego, Chula Vista, La Mesa, Carlsbad, Encinitas
and Escondido.
Question:
How much does it cost?
Answer:
Tuition is affordable and based on household income. To make payment
as flexible as possible, tuition can be paid over three weeks or
a credit card can be used. Tuition rates can be found on the
registration form.
Question:
What if I have to miss a session?
Answer:
Particpants are encouraged to sign up for a workshop they are confident
they can complete. However, when a parent must miss a session,
that session can be made up in another location at another time.
Question: Do I receive a certificate?
Answer:
Yes. Each parent earns a graduation certificate once all three
sessions have been completed and tuition is paid in full.
